Sarah Hempel Irani

Artist. Mother. Writer. Speaker. Traveler. Survivor. Inspirer.

Sarah Hempel Irani began her vocation as a sculptor after a vision she received on an airplane. She went on to make the sculpture she saw and never looked back. She gained valuable experience studying sculpture with Anthony Frudakis and working as an apprentice to Jay Hall Carpenter, former artist-in-residence at the Washington National Cathedral. After installing two larger-than-life size sculptures in Italian marble at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church in Potomac, Sarah, relocated to a rural town in Western Pennsylvania where she finished her Master’s thesis, adopted a child, started an arts non-profit, and ran a bunch of 5Ks with unique footwear. She returned to her beloved Frederick, Maryland, survived ovarian cancer and is back in the studio and at the podium, sharing a variety of experiences both in and out of the studio.

Sarah has been a visiting artist and speaker at Ave Maria University, Grove City College, Slippery Rock University, Covenant College, as well as numerous churches and religious organizations.

When Sarah was the Chairperson for the Grove City Arts Council, she invited the community to work together to develop an arts center in rural Pennsylvania.
